CSR activities:

Going beyond profits to profit the world

Defining education, health and environment as the pillars of its social outreach, the Mahindra group set out to redefine corporate social responsibility in India. As its social welfare programmes expanded, the Mahindra CSR Council was set up in 2006 to oversee and steer the social activities of the Mahindra Group.

On the occasion of its 60th birthday, the Mahindra Group pledged to commit 1% of its profit after tax towards social welfare.

When you’re serious about social change, the numbers speak for themselves. The K.C. Mahindra Education trust, established in 1953 has provided more than 13.8 crores (approximately US $3 million) to deserving and needy students.

Nanhi Kali, an initiative by the K.C. Mahindra Trust currently supports the education of 32,000 underprivileged girl children.

Every year 40 post graduate students study abroad on the scholarships funded by KCMET.

Over 600 underprivileged students are awarded the Mahindra Search for Talent Scholarship annually.

Over 60 international students come to the Mahindra United World College at Pune to experience an international education, shared learning and community service.

For the Mahindra Group, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not just a duty. It's the unique way we work and live.

Launched a unique kind of ESOPs (Employee Social Options) to involve its employees in socially responsible activities

Provided free Cochlear implants to 60 profoundly hearing-impaired, socially disadvantaged children

Plans to set up two Mahindra Pride Schools to offer a variety of courses, with an emphasis on employability

Through its involvement in the Mid Day Meal programme, provides hygienic and nutritious mid-day meals to approximately 25000 - 35000 students studying in classes 1 to 4.

Mahindra and Mahindra has successfully installed Environmental Management Systems and received the ISO 14001 certification in August 2002.

Our belief in that the environment shouldn't be made to pay for the price of success has won our auto sector the National Energy Conservation Award and our Nashik plant the Excellence in Water Management award.

The Company supports sports and art too in a big way. So much so that in the present day India's most formidable football team is Mahindra United. The Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards aspires to harness and develop talent in theatre across the country, while the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival is a shot in the arm for independent cinema in India.

All this probably won't help Mahindra post record profits, but then, profit was never the sole spirit behind this US $6 billion conglomerate.
