CSR activities: (Global Policy)

They are strongly committed to the protection of human health, safety and the environment in all of their global communities where they operate.

They have set and are committed to meet five year goals to reduce water usage, carbon dioxide emissions, waste, employee injuries and commercial vehicle fleet accidents. By concentrating on these key areas, they will generate the greatest environmental, health and safety. They have set more aggressive goals for two important areas, reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and reduction in lost time due to serious employee injury.

 

 

  • Fighting against HIV-Abbott has been a leader in the global battle against HIV since the start of the epidemic. They have created diagnostic tools, pharmaceuticals and innovative philanthropic programs to combat the disease.
    1. Pending approval, Abbott is supplying HIV medicine in some countries on a humanitarian basis through other legal means, such as waiver processes, in conjunction with partner non-governmental organizations and governments.
    2. In 2002 the company made a commitment that it would sell its HIV medicines to Lower Developed Countries at a lower price per patient per year. In April 2007, they announced a further reduction in the price of the medicines per patient per year in these countries.

 

  • Abbott Fund-Abbott Fund invests in creative ideas that promote science, expand access to health care, and strengthen communities worldwide. In partnership with others, they strive to make a lasting impact on people’s lives and encourage others to action

 

  • Environment- A modern effluent treatment plant is operational at the Goa Plant, treating and discharging waste water within parameters of treated effluent well below the limits set by the Local Pollution Control Board. Water recycling activities have been encouraged.

 

  • Health and Safety- As a part of its responsibility towards social health and safety, the company has formed a safety committee. Regular audits are conducted for EHS by the global team of Abbott.
