CHAPTER VII
DEVELOPMENT OF GAMES : Before any scheme for organised games etc., can be prepared, it is essential that the Physical educator should know the abilities of each child to play, the child's mental level and be on the alert not to let the child get into an activity that is too much for him. He also should fit the game to the child rather than try to make the child fit the game. Hence he should very carefully stress and see on the following points : i) I. Q. of the child (Mental Age) ii) Motor ability (Skill & performance) iii) Physical defects, if any. (health - it is always correct to go through the detailed medical history sheet of the child before he/she has been taken in for an active play or games etc.) iv) Diagnose : (to ascertain clinically) - (such as, Mongols, i.e., Down's syndrome, Microcephalic, Hydrocephalic, Cretin, Hyperactive, inactive, epileptic etc.) v) Mental alertness : While making a group, the physical educator should see the following points in every case. i) Child's motor ability - (Skill and performance) ii) I. Q. (Mental age) iii) Height
NOTE : It has been observed that a child whose LQ. is 40, but his motor ability is normal and performance is good, in that case he may be included in a group better than of his I.Q. level group.
