Now, find out exactly how BMC spent funds According to the new law, municipal bodies will make public every detail about 13 major areas through newspapers, ward offices and other media specified by the government Dharmendra Jore Mumbai
THE PROPOSED amendments to the municipal acts will help you know what's happening in your local selfgovernment.
Under the new law, municipal bodies will make public every detail about 13 major things through newspapers, internet (if available), public notice boards, ward offices and other media specified by the government.
Important among the areas are the projects, work contracts/orders, minutes of important meetings, annual accounts, services rendered, revenue or donation or grant receipts. The Cabinet approved amendments on Wednesday as a public disclosure law. It will be added as a new chapter to the existing acts. The new law will be applicable to all municipal corporations and councils.
According to the state government, the new law became essential for seeking funds under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
In fact, the agreement between the Centre and state has mandated such a law. The significant recommendation is about the meetings where public representatives discuss proposals for approval. The state wants local self governments to inform about decisions taken. It will be mandatory for the bodies to publish quarterly accounts within two months from auditing.
