CBI case on I-T official for Rs 20-crore assets New Delhi: CBI on Thursday registered a case of disproportionate assets against a senior income-tax official of Kolkata and claimed to have recovered assets worth over Rs 20 crore following searches against him in three cities. After registering a case against commisioner (appeals) K Hari Prasad, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of 1979 batch, on Wednesday, the CBI carried out seaches at 10 places against him and his relatives in Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad. Prasad was earlier posted at Hyderabad for several years. The CBI conducted surprise checks at the residences of his relatives in Hyderabad, his official residence and office chamber in Kolkata and the office of his tax consultant at Chennai after registering the case, a CBI release said here. During the searches, the CBI claimed to have found several property documents and share certificates worth crores. Ten bank accounts in the name of the accused and his immediate kith and kin have been frozen. His lockers were inspected and gold and diamond ornaments worth several lakhs were found. Prasad allegedly owns a flat and two bungalows worth Rs 8.5 crore. Several property documents executed by the official by representing his brother and sister were also recovered from his possession and acquisition value of these are estimated to be about Rs 7 crore, the release said. Share certificates worth Rs 65 lakh and Rs 1.14 lakh in cash were recovered from the residence of the accused, the CBI release said. Insurance policies on which premium of Rs 12.5 lakh was paid were also recovered. Property documents of acquisition of two acres at Kollur and more than one acre at Khajaguda on the outskirts of Hyderabad, whose approximate value will be Rs 5 crore, have also been recovered, it said.
