25% of FCI staff corrupt
New Delhi: Over a quarter of junior-level Food Corporation of India (FCI) officials were found guilty of corruption in the last three years, Parliament was informed on Monday.
Besides the category III and II staff, 15.41% of senior officials were also found guilty of corruption and punished internally. Over the three-year period, FCI took action against 7,890 officials for corruption.
A number of corruption cases are also pending with the department of personnel and training against IAS officials for the period they served in the FCI. These revelations were made by Sharad Pawar, minister for consumer affairs, food and public distribution, in his reply to a parliamentary standing committee's report.
The committee had said it was "deeply concerned to note the constant rise in corruption cases despite various remedial measures taken in this regard". The committee added that in many cases, it felt that junior-level officials were caught when the seniors too should have been indicted.
