CPCSEA National Conference begins on 15th Jan

Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) National Conference 2010 begins here tomorrow. About 300 participants from pharmaceutical companies, medical and pharmacy students, social workers and people involved with animal welfare are expected. Ethical concerns in use of animal for research and breeding, role of behavioral indicators of welfare in experimental animals, role of statistics in conducting experiments, replacement in alternatives in education, animal and climate change, quality of feed, rehabilitation and socialization of large animals etc will be discussed.

CPCSEA is also a statutory body under Section 15 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 with head quarters at Chennai. The mandate of this Committee is to ensure that while conducting various types of experiments, in connection with medical research or education, animals are not subjected to avoidable pain or suffering. The main function of this Committee is to register institutions carrying out animal experimentation and / or breeding; to consider approval of animal house facilities and to regulate use of animals in experimentation. The committee has 10 experts and 3 official members.
