ACB finds assets worth Rs 1.84 cr in raid on Andhra revenue officer
When the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) raided the flat of Akbar Ali Khan, an officer in the Estate Office of Revenue Department, they found he had given a new meaning to the position he holds as special revenue officer.
“We are still making the estimates but so far we have unearthed disproportionate assets worth about Rs 1.84 crore. The opulent interiors, the luxurious furniture, jewellery sets...there is a swing that must have cost a fortune. It was as if the house belonged to an industrialist,” said ACB Joint Director Sampath Kumar.
In an early morning raid, the ACB knocked on the doors of flat 201 of Royal Orchid in the upmarket Red Hills area, one of Khan’s many residences. “The value of the 2,000-sq feet flat on paper is Rs 43 lakh, but is estimated to be close to Rs 1 crore. There was Rs 3.39 lakh in cash lying in the flat, and 260 gm of gold worth Rs 45 lakh. His bank lockers threw up another Rs 26 lakh. He has three luxury cars while four two-wheelers are registered in the name of his family members,” an ACB official said.
Khan has two other flats, while he has paid an advance of Rs 23 lakh for another luxury flat in Gachi Bowli area, and another Rs 5 lakh advance for a residential plot. The market value of his fixed assets would be more than Rs 4 crore, the officials added.
Khan was allegedly taking enormous amounts to evaluate properties in the city, mostly taking cuts in percentages for overestimating the value land or property.
