ACB catches Cop red-handed while taking bribe.........Madhav Jagtap
 
Mumbai: A police inspector has been caught red-handed while accepting Rs 2,000 bribe here from a person, who is out on bail in a criminal case, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said.
 
The accused, identified as Madhav Jagtap, Inspector attached with Byculla police station, was nabbed while taking Rs 2,000 from the victim, who had been arrested on charges of harassing his wife and later released on bail, the ACB officials said.
 
The victim and his mother were held by the police for allegedly harassing former's wife and after bail, granted by a court, the duo was told to report to the police station on a daily basis, the ACB officials said.
 
On December 16, Jagtap, who was probing the victim's case, threatened him that he could ruin his life in this case and if he wanted to settle the matter, he had to shell out Rs 15,000.
 
Subsequently, in December last week, the victim had paid Rs 13,000 to the policeman. However, Jagtap demanded remaining Rs 2,000 following which the victim approached the ACB and lodged a complaint, they added.
 
A trap was laid at Byculla area in south Mumbai and the cop was arrested yesterday, ACB officials said adding that further probe was on.
