A Useful Meet
Ashish Shelar, BJP corporator and Vinay Somani of Karmayog, apart
from other NGOs attended a meeting organised by Shaina NC, BJP Secretary
and president of civic and health cell. Shelar read out a 30-page
manifesto discussing the problems related to water and flooding- specifically
repair of old water pipelines, taken in a ward-wise manner. Rain water
harvesting and recycling of water will be encouraged; underground
nallahs to be cleaned and new constructed. Based on the Chitale Committee
report rebuilding of pumping station will be undertaken as most pumping
stations are below ground level. Electronically operated or computerised
floodgates will be installed, at an approximate cost of Rs. 72 crore.
Other initiatives like planting of trees, renovation of hospitals
rehabilitation of encroachments etc. Garbage planning will be encouraged;
this waste will also be used to generate electricity.
